This rescue operation follows the Nigerian government’s previous efforts, which saw the rescue of at least 10 Nigerian teenage girls aged between 15 and 16 from trafficking and prostitution just a month ago.
NiDCOM’s Head of Media and Public Relations, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, released a statement on Saturday detailing the latest rescue. The victims include 47 Nigerians from Kano State, five from Katsina State, two from Jigawa State, and four from Kaduna State.
The total number of Nigerians rescued in Accra over the past three months now stands at 105, as noted by Balogun.
“A total of 58 new Nigerian women and children were rescued from human traffickers in Ghana, bringing the total number of rescued Nigerians in Accra in the last three months to 105,” the statement read.
“Chief Callistus Elozieuwa, Chairman of NIDCOM Board of Trustees in Ghana, disclosed this to NiDCOM Chairman/CEO Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa during her visit to the trafficked victims in Accra.
“The rescued women and children are on their way back to Nigeria, where they will be properly profiled and counseled by NAPTIP, reunited with their families, and rehabilitated by their respective state governments.”
The earlier rescued girls have already been repatriated to Nigeria. The victims had been lured to Ghana with promises of a better life but were instead forced into prostitution.
