Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Development, Patrick Mba, and his wife have been freed from captivity after being abducted by gunmen.
Their release comes just one day after they were kidnapped while traveling along the Edo-Kogi Expressway.
A high-ranking government official, speaking anonymously, confirmed the couple’s safe return on Saturday night.
“The Commissioner and his wife have been released today. We thank God for their safety. The state government will issue a statement soon,” the source shared.
Mba and his wife were reportedly on their way to Abuja to attend the wedding of Adaora, the daughter of Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, when they were taken by the assailants.
The couple was traveling in a commercial Toyota Sienna bus with other passengers at the time of the incident.
Tragically, one of Mba’s aides, who was also on the journey, was killed during the abduction.
The state government has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
Further details are expected to follow.
