Lagos, June 3 — The Redeemed Christian Church of God RCCG has announced the suspension of Pastor Idowu Iluyomade, the Senior Pastor of the City of David parish and head of the Apapa Family of the RCCG.
According to a report by Church Times, Pastor Iluyomade’s suspension was communicated through a letter over the weekend. Pastor Charles Kpandei from RCCG Resurrection Parish of Region 11 has been appointed as his replacement and assumed his duties on Sunday, June 2, to a notably cold reception.
An insider revealed that the RCCG had been preparing the City of David congregation for Pastor Kpandei’s arrival.
Some senior RCCG officials discreetly informed influential members of the parish about Pastor Iluyomade’s removal due to his significant influence. The officials aimed to secure the confidence of these members before executing the change.
The RCCG’s Governing Council has suspended Pastor Iluyomade for three months and formed a panel to investigate various allegations against him and the parish. However, the specific nature of these allegations remains undisclosed.
Sources suggest that Pastor Iluyomade’s suspension might be a prelude to his permanent removal, especially with the church’s annual convention approaching in three months. Pastor Iluyomade has served the City of David parish for many years, and his reassignment is seen as a significant shift within the church’s leadership.
Further updates will follow as the investigation progresses.
