Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, expressed confidence on Friday despite the Appeal Court’s recent ruling on the State House of Assembly crisis, stating there is no reason for concern.
During an inspection of the Zonal Hospital reconstruction project in Bori Town, headquarters of Khana Local Government Area, Fubara assured the public that he remains undeterred by the appellate court’s decision.
“I want to assure every one of you and the good people of Rivers State that we are not deterred. We have made our promises, and we will continue to provide good governance, no matter how difficult it is,” Fubara declared.
The Court of Appeal in Abuja had dismissed an order from a Rivers High Court that restrained Martin Amaewhule and 24 others from acting as lawmakers. A three-member panel, led by Jimi Olukayode-Bada, ruled that the trial court lacked jurisdiction, as such matters should be addressed by a Federal High Court.
Fubara emphasized that the worst is over and he is focused on delivering democratic dividends to the people of Rivers State.
“But, like I said before, the worst is over. We are moving on to ensure that we continue to provide what is needed for the development of our state,” he stated.
Quoting Psalm 23:5, Fubara highlighted that every government faces challenges and that these obstacles will not prevent him from fulfilling his campaign promises.
Fubara pointed out that his administration inherited non-functional Zonal Hospitals and initiated the reconstruction and expansion of four such facilities about a month ago to ensure quality healthcare.
He expressed satisfaction with the contractors’ commitment and alignment with his administration’s goals.
“You could remember that I did promise our people that one of the most important areas our budget for the year 2025 will focus on is healthcare, education, and agriculture. As part of what we promised in 2024, we are here to inspect the extent of work ongoing,” he said.
The governor assured that once completed, the healthcare facilities would meet the needs of the local communities and align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and his administration’s policy objectives.
Fubara was accompanied on the inspection tour by State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Ore, State Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Victor Kii, and Caretaker Committee Chairman, Marvin Yobana, who received him and his team.
