In a violent incident at the Ishieke police station in Ebonyi Local Government Area, Ebonyi state, six suspects were killed by gunmen. The attack occurred around 9 PM on Wednesday, causing widespread panic as the assailants opened fire.
Eyewitnesses reported that police operatives on the scene engaged the gunmen in a fierce gun battle lasting over 30 minutes. Additional security forces arrived to support the defense efforts.
A video circulating online on Thursday morning shows several of the suspected attackers who were shot dead. Two vehicles were also seen set ablaze.
The injured individuals are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Abakaliki, the state capital. As of the time of reporting, the police have not yet released an official statement regarding the incident.
The attack coincided with a visit by Elizabeth Egbetokun, the wife of the Inspector General of Police, to the Ebonyi state police command for an empowerment program earlier in the day.
