The Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, emphasized the importance of human space flight in exploring Nigeria’s space ecosystem during a recent ceremony in Abuja.
The event marked the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) and the Space Exploration and Research Agency (SERA).
Minister Nnaji highlighted that the National Space Policy and Program (NSPP), approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in 2001, identifies human space flight as a crucial element.
This goal is part of a 25-year roadmap for implementing the NSPP, approved in 2005.
The Minister noted that NASRDA, established on May 5, 1999, aims to develop space science and technology for the country’s economic benefit.
He stressed that efforts are being made to rectify past delays and align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, transitioning Nigeria from a resource-based to a knowledge-based economy.
Nnaji also mentioned that the signing of the MoU underscores the Ministry’s commitment to technological advancement and praised the private sector’s contributions to the nation’s socio-economic development.
