Tobi Amusan, the world record holder in the 100m hurdles, has been cleared to compete in the Paris Olympics after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) dismissed appeals against her exoneration from doping charges on Friday.
Amusan, 27, faced charges in July 2023 for missing three anti-doping tests within a 12-month period. However, the Disciplinary Tribunal of World Athletics, the sport’s governing body, cleared her of the offence.
World Athletics and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) subsequently appealed this decision to CAS.
In a statement, CAS revealed that its panel “unanimously acknowledged that the athlete committed two filing failures but did not confirm the existence of a missed test, alleged by WA and WADA, which would have been the third Whereabouts Failure committed within a 12-month period.”
Amusan set the world record of 12.12 seconds at the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, in July 2022, where she also won the title. She finished sixth at the World Championships in Budapest last year.
Under World Athletics’ anti-doping regulations, athletes who fail to declare their whereabouts for doping tests on three occasions within a year face a two-year ban from competition.
Amusan’s clearance means she will not face such a ban and can continue her athletic career, including participation in the upcoming Paris Olympics.
